Enter the instalments you paid and what the investment is worth today, and see the real annual return - the XIRR - rather than a simple average, which is always wrong for a SIP.

- XIRR answers "what annual return would have produced this?". It is the only fair way to judge a SIP, and it is what your fund house uses on your statement.
- Compare it with an index fund over exactly the same dates, not with a headline number from a different period. A fund that returned 11% while the index returned 14% has cost you money.
- A few months of data will swing wildly. Judge a fund over three years or more.
Common questions
Why not just compare what I put in with what it is worth?
Because each instalment was invested for a different length of time. The first one has been compounding for years and the last one for a month. XIRR is what a spreadsheet uses to turn dated cash flows into a single annual return, and it is the only honest answer.
Where do I find my instalments?
Your consolidated account statement from CAMS or KFintech lists every instalment with its date, as does the statement in your broker or fund app. Nothing you type here leaves your device.
What counts as a good XIRR?
Compare it with what a plain index fund did over exactly the same period, not with a headline number from a different period. A fund that made 11 per cent while the index made 14 has cost you money.
