- A bad run of returns in the first few years does far more damage than the same run later, because the withdrawals come out of a smaller balance. The averages here cannot show that.
- Each withdrawal from an equity fund is a redemption, and capital gains tax applies on the gain portion.
Common questions
How much can I safely withdraw?
The rule of thumb is about 4 per cent of the corpus a year, raised with inflation. This calculator lets you check your own number instead of trusting the rule: if the balance hits zero before the end of the period, the withdrawal is too high.
